Propane, All the Performance, Half the Price

03/16/11
With fuel costs continuing to rise, propane is becoming a viable option. At this time, the cost savings of propane over gas is up to 50%. Many companies are hesitant at first because the initial investment is higher, but with ROI (Return on Investment) for most landscape contractors of one year or less, propane may be the way to go. Scott's Power Equipment has partnered with propane vendors that will set your company up with tanks and/or a fill station at no additional cost to you. Looking to make the switch? Scott's can convert nearly any walk-behind for around $600 + install.

Currently, all Scott's Power locations have  EPA-approved, Ferris and Snapper Pro Zero Turn mowers available. Our Wentzville location also has the propane powered, Scag Turf Tiger available.

There are many benefits to switching to propane including;
1. A viable pathway for complying with federal alternative fuel vehicle requirements for fleets.
2. Simple, often on-site, refueling processes.
3. Cost-effective development of on-site refueling infrastructure.
4. Purchase or conversion rebates and incentives offered by federal and state organizations.
5. Tax credits and exemptions on refueling costs.
6. Almost 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and 80%reduction in carbon monoxide.
6. Elimination of the potential for fuel theft and spillage.

There are several companies out there using propane already. The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) successfully exhibited at the Green Industry and Equipment Expo (GIE+EXPO) October 28-30, 2010, at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. In the Propane Pavilion, manufacturers, industry leaders, and propane providers discussed how the latest products, technologies, and innovations are dramatically reshaping the green industry.

Eric Hanson, president of Competitive Lawn Service, Inc., spoke about his company's success with propane-fueled commercial mowers. During the last two years, Hansen has reaped many benefits from propane-fueled equipment, including reduced costs, maintenance convenience, and the ability to offer customers a more environmentally friendly, sustainable solution.

"Propane costs less than gasoline or diesel fuel, it costs less to maintain propane-fueled equipment, and it's better for the environment, all without sacrificing performance," Hansen says. "It just makes sense to use it in every piece of equipment I can."
